An article on Medium can easily be written in a day. If not a satisfying version, then a first draft for sure. A short story is somewhat more of a challenge, and a novel… Not gonna happen.

I know there are a lot of writers here, and probably a lot of them with big plans for novels, series and all kinds of beautiful writings that already glisten in the back of your mind. I also know how hard it can be to find the time, to not get lost in the tens of thousands of words you’ll need to produce and go over three, six, twelve times… How easily you can get distracted — if not by your circumstances, then probably by your own perfectionism.

But what if you took things slowly? What if you let go of your ‘I need to do this now and quickly’ and simply write?

I believe it was Ernest Hemingway who said to write 100 words a day. I couldn’t agree with him more.

Anyone can write 100 words a day. Writer’s block cannot get hold of you with such a small number. You can go anywhere with those 100 words, and if the words are no good? Well, deleting 100 of them isn’t that painful.

And if you look at the time investment: you can write 100 words in less than three minutes. While waiting for the bus, or during a commercial break, or even — if all hope is lost — on…
